Could anybody tell me what the plural of brainchild is? Is it brainchilds or is brainchildren an acceptable word? Thanks.

I would be apt to say brainchilds, since the -children option would seem to focus more on actual 'kids'. I must admit I'm at a loss with this one. Naturally, I consulted my favourite online dictionary http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=brainchild, and oddly enough, the plural isn't commented on. Here's hoping someone can clear it up so we come out of this the wiser! Bill

Google gives 549 for 'brainchilds' and 48,800 for 'brainchildren'. It is a tricky one, like the plural of computer mouse.

If "brainchild" is viewed as one word, not a compound, then add -s, "brainchilds". If it's viewed as a compound, then "brainchildren". Note, to my knowledge "brainchild" doesn't have a recognized plural form.
