Just need to verify the answers on my son's graded test. I believe two of the questions marked wrong are correct, but would appreciate your review of the following:
Find the Main Verb and the Helping Verb in each sentence:
Carrie can't dive from the high platform.
Three inches of snow will probably fall tonight.
Choose the correct form of the verb for each sentence:
We ___________ the extra meat.
A. freezed
B. frozen
C. froze
Thank you in advance.
Welcome.
The helping verb comes first:
[1] Carrie can dive from the high platform.
Helping verb: can
Main verb: dive
[2] Three inches of snow will probably fall tonight.
Helping verb: will
Main verb: fall
Note, the main verb is the word that expresses the main action. A person "dives" and "falls", but cannot "cans".
[3] We froze the extra meat.
A. freezed (non-standard usage; the standard is froze)
B. frozen (past participle)
C. froze (past tense)
The verb paradigm for "to freeze" looks like this:
to freeze
Present: freeze, freezes
Past: froze
Past Participle: frozen
Note, use "froze" when you want to talk about something in that past, and use "frozen" with HAVE or HAD, or as an adjective, like this,
EX: We have frozen the extra meat. (present perfect)
EX: We had frozen the extra meat. (past perfect)
EX: This meat is frozen. (predicate adjective)
EX: This is frozen meat. (attributive adjective)
All the best.![]()
Thank you !! He did get right the "froze" question.
On the MV and HV, he marked the answer-
MV: dive HV: can't
there is, however, an answer that fits your response
MV: dive HV: can
So, I guess I can atleast try to get him some points back for the irregular verb question.
Thanks again!
