    It would be more natural to say:

    What does she mean by "Isn't this going to be a fun evening?"?
    or Why is "Isn't this going to be a fun evening?" supposed to be funny?

    The humour comes from the idea that the two women are going to enjoy their evening.but the man is not.
    Context is always important; labelling is rarely important.
