    Default That is the bar

    Hello,
I was reading an article and i countered a sentence which i couldn't get the right meaning of it..

Every year, I sort back through what was published to highlight the books that changed how I saw the world. That’s the bar. This year I completely changed my view about the purpose of holding a meeting, I realized startups search for business models and I became more aware of the mental traps programming into my mind. And that is just the start.

my question is.. what does it mean bar here in the text ?

    many thanks.

The whole piece is a little strange, IMO. Was it written by a native English speaker?

Hmmm, he may live and work in Oregon but I couldn't find anything to specifically say that he's actually American (or rather, a native English speaker). The first post which comes up on his website starts with the line:

"There have been some great comedy written this year at the expense of the book publishing."

    Oh dear.

Which part? The part in your original question? I don't know. If you've been tasked with translating an entire post or website you can't really just miss out the parts which were badly written in English.

My only understanding of "That's the bar" would be that the person has set a level that he has to use as his minimum base level by which he measures things. He probably read a lot of books but he decided to "set the bar" (taken from the sport of high jumping, I think) at the books which actually made him change his view of the world.
