Wake up suddenly

I've just joined this forum.
I hope I can use your experience and help you whenever I can.
As my first question, I'd like to know if there's any phrase meaning 'waking up suddenly' in the night while you don't intend to. Just as you hear some bad noise or you have a nightmare.

At the moment, I can think only of 'wake (up) with a start'.
