Dear all,
A wrestling coach say to one of his students backstage:
"The first match is in. You are next."
What is the meaning of "in" in that context? At first, I thought that "in" meant "is about to start" but when he said "you are next" I got baffled and It seemed to me "The first match has ended" but I haven't found this meaning "end" in any of "in"'s meanings. Can you help me understand that, please?
Thanks a lot.
This 'in' might be a particular wrestling term; another possibility is that it's a typo for 'on' - meaning in progress (or indeed a bigger typo than that - dropping the 'progress'). The coach seems to be saying 'the match scheduled before yours has started, so get ready'.

Context is always important; labelling is rarely important.
