This script uses MS Excel and Microsoft Component Object Model(COM) automation calls using Astrogator object model scripting calls.

I must admit that I know almost nothing about these terms. Would you be so kind to tell me if I have understood the 'mechanics' of the sentence correctly?
MS Excel - X
Microsoft Component Object Model(COM) - Y
Astrogator object model scripting calls - Z
"This script uses X and Y automation calls using Z."
Without knowing the subject we can't say whether it is "[X] and [Y automation calls]" or "[X and Y] automation calls".
Thanks.
That is correct. You have to know the subject to know how the "and" is meant to distribute.
I would guess it's Excel AND [COM calls using Astrogator].
Thank you, SoothingDave!
I have noticed that you view this sentence as "This script uses [X using Y]" (I've cropped it a bit for the sake of simplicity). Am I right?
I'm asking this question because I think that I view the sentence this way "[This script uses X] using Y" (if I had to construct a similar sentence it would be something like this: "I use my new tools using all my skills").
Does the way one perceives this by any chance depend on knowing the subject as well?
Thanks.

Sorry, I don't see the distinction you are trying to make. They all associate together.
