Does it mean "If you want life to give you more" then ....

It could mean that literally, yes, but idiomatically it means making life more meaningful/fulfilling.

Another example might be, “If you want to get more out of this book, you must meditate before reading it.” Here, the suggestion of meditation might help you garner insight and understanding, not, say, money from selling the book. You would not rephrase it as “If you want the book to give you more”, and expect the same meaning.
