Guys, I'm back again. I'm sorry, I know, I know, this is not good, but you know, I'm afraid I'm totally lost without you... So either you are about to suffer me, or to ban me; either of the two...
But for the time being I'm going to take my chance
s and bring you some delicacy
formfrom "
An Indian's Looking-Glass for the White Man"
of by William Apess. At some point the author lists a few causes to be blamed for the Indian's poor situation and in doing so he also claims that
:
"Another reason [for it to be] is because they are made to believe they are minors and have not the abilities given them from God to take care of themselves,
without it (without the abilities) is to see to ("to see to" is to take care of or be responsible for) a few little articles, such as baskets and brooms. Their land is in common stock, and they have nothing to make them enterprising."
Another reason is that they are led to believe that they are children and do not have the abilities, given to them by God, to take care of themselves, without these abilities all they can do is to take care of a few items, such as baskets and brooms.
This marked phrase is a total mess to me!

Could somebody try to express this phrase's precise meaning, or the whole sentence allowing especially for this strange construct, in some more "civilized"
(Civilized doesn't play into this - this is merely a case of an ill written sentence.) and more "up-to-date" way, please.

Thank you very much again.
