Hello everyone,
It is an honor to be part of this great Community.
My Question:
Is it correct to use the word ( guys ) when calling girls and women, or is it exclusively used to get males' attention?
Many thanks...
Welcome, Wolf.
"guys" is commonly used in North American English to refer to a group of people you're on familiar terms with. e.g., friends, you younger sister's or brother's friends, your close colleagues, be they all female, all male or a mixture of the two. "guys" is colloquial. For example, I have three sisters and no brothers, and I use "guys" to get my sisters' attention, as does my mom or dad when they want to get our attention; e.g., "Hey, guys, should we order pizza for dinner tonight?"

Thanks a lot for this elaboration but I still have two questions:Originally Posted by Casiopea
First, is it correct to use it all the time to address women for example, talking to a group of college females.
Second, is it right to say, " My guys" to get women attention all the time. What I know is ( hey guys) not " my guys."
Sorry for causing trouble, and I really appreciate your efforts.
You're welcome.
[1] Not unless you know them very well. Remember that "guys" is an endearment term. Use it with people (male or female) you feel close to.
[2] "Hey, guys!" works."My guys" wouldn't work on that particular situation.
