Default Another animal has gone extinct in our time

    1. Another animal has gone extinct in our time. It`s Black Rhino.
    I wonder if '1" means "2" or "3".
    2. There is no Black Rhino left in the world.
    3. There are some Rhinos left in the world.

It means 2. Also, the American Liberal, I think, is the extinct animal of interest (just kidding).

If an animal has gone extinct, it means that the last one in existence has died. There are no more of that animal in existence in the world. If there were "some black rhinos left", it would not be extinct.

Just for info, it is only the "western black rhino" which was declared extinct in November 2011. There are still black rhinos in the world, but of different sub-species.

As a side-note, whilst I am aware that "to go extinct" is acceptable, I have always used (and continue to use) "to become extinct".
