While I was reading a story to my cousin, which was about an orphan bearing hardships and becoming an adult, I almost cried.
Is this correct? Am I using a relative pronoun(which) correctly?
It would probably pass, but why not remove the ambiguity and awkwardness and write, "While I was reading to my cousin a story about an orphan bearing hardships and becoming an adult, I almost cried."
