    Default match

Please help me understand the following in red.

He ended all of the company's philanthropy programs, including its offer to match charitable contributions from employees.

Does this refer to the company's program to contribute the same amount of money as that of the money contributed by its employees? For example, is it saying if employees contribute 1,000dollars, the company also contributes $1,000?

    Thank you.

Yes, that's exactly what it means. If I contribute £10 to charity, my employer will contribute £10 as well. The only thing that isn't clear is whether or not the company will make the contribution to the same charity as the employee did.

Use either format, but not both, for consistency.

Also, usually "matched" contributions are capped. So, the program might be "the company will match employee contributions, up to $100,000".
