If you had used quotation marks, it would have been SO much easier to understand this.

Even then, it's troublesome. Surely there are more common phrases in both the US and the UK than "different from"!

The structure "different from" is more common than [what? "different than"?] in both the US and the UK. -- THAT would have been 10 times easier to understand.
