Default to see her instead of

I am trying to make a sentence using instead of. Is this sentence correct?

Can you assess Alice instead of John next Monday? If there is no problem, we will ask Alice to come to your clinic next Monday.

The sentence is correct but the word 'assess' is not appropriate.

I suggest 'see', 'examine' or 'attend to' unless you mean you are giving the person a test.

I would also prefer 'see', however 'assess' is perfectly fine in some contexts. Psychological assessments, nursing assessments are examples of this usage.
