Can we say "the fire is still on" or "the fire is off"? Or is off / on not correct for fire?

If it's a real fire (wood/coal etc) then we say: The fire is still alight. The fire is still lit. The fire is still burning. The fire has gone out.

The fire is still burning. The fire has gone out. For an electric, oil or natural gas source of heat in AmE we would say, "The heat is on/off", but we would not use the term "fire" with those sources.
