Hello,
I would like to know if the above expression can be used in a negative way, that is to say:
Things are not looking up lately
Thank you for your help
I would not use that expression and I don't recall ever seeing or reading it.
Rover
Hmm. I can see a situation like this:
A: Hey Tom. Gosh, the last time we talked, you told me that your dog was sick. Is he better?
B: Well, things aren't exactly looking up. He's no worse, but ... well, I'm not seeing him getting any better.. And now the cat has an infected scratch so more vet bills.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
