Which preposition is correct here?

I wonder if man can really be happy by science.
I prefer the first, but it's not the way I would express the idea.
How would you express the same idea if you were supposed to use man as the subject of the if-clause, tdol?
I wonder if man can really be made happy by science.
That would not be how I would say it either but is the only way I can think of given the constraints. I would say "I wonder if science can really make man happy."
