    Default is this a correct sentence?

    “X” clothes and shoes store was one of the sponsors of the film which has shown the highest rating during the last months.

    I think it is grammatically correct, but it sounds a little awkward to me. I might rewrite this as:

    “X” clothes and shoes store was one of the sponsors of the highest rated film during the last Y months.

    Even now, it's not clear whether the film was rated high during the last months, or if the store simply sponsored the film during this time. Perhaps this:

    X” clothes and shoes store was one of the sponsors of the film, which was also the highest rating film during the last few months.

    I believe that American English calls for:

    shoe store. (No plural)

    book store which over the years has become bookstore. But so far, shoestore

    is NOT acceptable.

    I believe this is correct, however the original quote included "clothes and shoes store", so it didn't sound strange to me. In fact, "clothes and shoe store" sounds odd. Speaking aloud won't help either, because the "S" or no "S" may get lost in shoe-store".
