Are the following sentences natural to a native ear?

1. How does this variable change as (the) time passes? ( Is ‘the’ required?)

2. Let John know that I had come by and will come by again.

3. My question is how they adjust for the elapsed time since the warning was issued.

2. Let John know that I had come by (or I came by) and will come by again.

3. My question is, how they adjust for the elapsed time since the warning was issued. OK
