Several sentences
Hi :]
I would like to use some phrases, but I am not sure, whether I did it correct. Would you be so nice as to check it? Thanks in advantage :]
After leaving home, father immediately set out for xxx. Since his car collapsed halfway, he had to stay in a nearby hamlet, in xxx. He will have to stand up to the vicissitudes of fortune and to arrive at decisions, many lives will depend on, when the time comes.

You haven't said which are the specific phrases that you wanted to use. Your whole piece sounds like it has been worded just to use certain phrases though. It appears that what you are saying is:
"After leaving home, my father immediately headed for XXX. As his car broke down halfway, he had to stay in XXX, a nearby hamlet. He will have to chance his luck and when the time comes, many lives will depend on his decisions."
I should point out that the second half, beginning "He will have to ..." and ending with the last word, makes no sense in either your version or mine!

Re: Several sentences
Do Britiish people still use "hamlet"? I'd change it to "village" if I were editing (for local conditions)

Re: Several sentences
Yes, we do, but I agree that village is a more useful word in most cases.
'Hamlet' will make too many people reach for their dictionaries, wondering whether it means a play or a cigar.
