This "negotiated" seems to be related to natural death, and it seems to be a question of common sense, but how can "negotiation" be related to death? Is it like euthanasia or something with an easy interpretation?

One of the meanings of negotiate is to intercede, or, to become actively involved. By the intersession of the medical profession, or by poor health habits, natural death is not allowed to occur when it normally would (life is extended by medicine or by other methods), or it occurs faster than normal.
