Hi
Which is the correct sentence?
Any difference in meaning?
1) I cannot go out unless I finish my homework first.
2) I cannot go out unless I have finished my homework first.
Thank you
This is a similar situation to the one you asked about here: Re: What’s the difference between these sentences?
Context is always important; labelling is rarely important.
***** NOT A TEACHER *****
(1) Mona: Can I go out?
Mother: Is your homework finished?
Mona: No, Mommy.
Mother: I'm sorry, but you cannot go out unless you finish your homework first.
Mona: OK, Mommy. I'll do my homework now.

(2) Joe: Can I go out?
Father: Sorry, son, but you may not go out unless you have already finished
your homework, and I don't think you have finished it yet. You never finish things on time.
Joe: I'm a changed boy, Dad. Look! Here is my finished homework.
Father: Good job, son. Have fun!
