    Post Correct tense!

Could you help me with the tense please?

I am writing a story about the birthday party. Firstly, when we came to the restaurant, the tablecloth was dirty, on the table there were not decorations, flowers or candles which I asked.

Should I use in the sentence "I had asked" ? I booked the table in the restaurant first than it happened.
    Thank you very much!

You have my vote for "had asked".

When we first got to/ arrived at the restaurant is a more natural start. 'Firstly' is fine if you are going to make a second complaint, beginning with 'secondly' or 'then'.

The second part would be more natural as: 'the decorations, flowers and candles which/that I had asked for were not on the table'.

Context is always important; labelling is rarely important.
