A foreign friend recently referred to England, as "The England" I pointed our to her that just saying England is correct. She asked me why, because her teacher had told her otherwise, however, I could not explain why to her.I am assuming, of course, that she was incorrect.

The name of the country istheEngland. We do not use articles with the name of a country, unless that name is a description of its political nature: the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the United States of America.
Context is always important; labelling is rarely important.
