start to "something"
Dear all,
A surfer says:
"So today we start the Double elimination. I start to the second round so it’s pretty hard for me because I will have to do a lot of heats and more I do it the more I feel stressed and tired"
I can't get what he means by "start to"! Is it like "start with"? Why he said "to"?
Thanks a lot.

Re: start to "something"
No idea. Do you think this is a native speaker? Perhaps this is some surfers' jargon...

I start the second round.
No need to use to.
But you can say I'm making my start to the second round.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Surfers are probably one of the worst subcultures to try to learn English from.

I agree, but I'd extend this to sportspeople in general.

There it is
- he's presumably translating am zweiten Rund (or whatever...my German's pretty shaky). The English would be 'We're starting[/about to start] on the second round'.
