Default learn about how to do things

After I arrived in Canada, I had to learn how to do things in Canada/ I had to learn about how to do things in Canada.

Which is the better one for this sentence, 'learn how to do things' or 'learn about how to do things'?

    Thank you in advance.

    'About' is unnecessary.
