Can the word "raw" be used for devices? Do you say "raw materials for medical devices"? If not, could you tell me what word I should use instead of it. Thank you.

I use raw materials for the substances, so I don't see how it would be used for medical devices. Could you give an example of what you are looking for?

Hello and thank you, tdol! This is about Notification of Japanese guidelines for use of "the Master File" of drug substances etc. It says "As for handling of raw materials (?) for medical devices, we will notify you separately.". (This is my translation and the original is written in Japanese.) It doesn't specify the contents of the raw materials (?) for medical devices. Maybe should I just say "materials for medical devices" without "raw"? Last edited by pink dragon; 14-Nov-2005 at 09:43.

I think it might be advisable. What exactly is meant by 'medical devices'? I had the idea of machinery initially.

I guess the writer means machinery such as cardiac pacemakers and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) system by "medical devices".

I'd use materials then.
