I wonder what question(s) ordinal numbers answer.

To illustrate, in the following context, does "how many" fit there?

-How many President was Nixon?
-He was the 37th President.

That's a tricky question to make. If you asked something like 'which president...', would the natural answer be to give the order? I'd probably say the one who resigned over Watergate. You'd probably have to qualify the question to make it specific that this was what you were looking for, by adding something like 'in order' or 'where did he come'
