addressing a letter

I am in the process of addressing a letter it is going to a person's employment

do i put it as John Smith '55
the company name
address
city, state and zip.

or do i put the company name
address
city state zip
then attention: john smith '55

this letter coming from a university - and being mailed to an alumni so i am showing the year of graduation after the persons last name.

The Postal Service prefers that the city, state, and zip be on the bottom.

Whether you do ...
Company
Attn: John Smith

or
John Smith
Company

... is your choice.

If its a large company, it's easier for the mail room to see the person's name at the top.

I hope your actual letter uses capital letters and punctuation, though.
