    Default of which the earth is a part

    Hi

    Yesterday i had a difficult test and the following question was kinda confusing to me. however I went for the answer b. Is that correct? why?


    All meteors belong to the solar system .........

    b. where earth is part
    c. of which the earth is a part

    I will choose c, because we always say 'the earth is a part of the solar system'

    Relative 'where' is used in the sense of 'in/at which', but not normally in the sense of 'of which'. So, as cheer965 said, the answer is c.

    but can we use ''the earth'' without the definite artilce?

    Yes, you can use "E/earth" without the definite article.

    When we do, we begin with a capital E. We use Earth as a name, like Mars, Venus, etc.

    Of the two options you have posted, c is the correct one. Were there other options, a, for example?
