No. "As a result" doesn't work. In order for it to fit, it would need to be the case that "indirect communication allows you to be more careful with what you want to say" is a direct result of "having time to go over what you have written and revise some parts". While both are true, they are not a direct cause and effect.

Initially, I thought "furthermore" fitted better but then I re-read it. "Having time to go over what you've written" and "being more careful with what you want to say" actually amount to the same thing so "likewise" fits.
