I wish everything ________ so expensive.
I gave the answer "weren't" but my teacher said I had to use "wouldn't be".
I think that everything is expensive now, so I wish they "weren't" expensive, not "wouldn't be".
What do you think? Please help me!

You are correct. Your teacher's version is not impossible for some speakers, but it is pretty unlikely.
