next modifying or descriptive
Can "next" be used as a descriptive adjective like the following? My grammar book defines it is only used for modifying usage and I have heard almost always modifying usages, but I doubt if any exceptional usage like "Same is next" is also correct.
ex)modifying usage-The next chapter, the next train, the next saturday....
descriptive usage - Jane is the current oboe player and Sam is next(?)
Re: next modifying or descriptive
This sounds fine to me:
A: The news is on now.
B: What's next?
A: A movie's next.
