form of a conjunction
I saw the following sentence online. Is it correct? Can the word group "similar to the way that" be used as a conjunction? Thank you very much.
"My brother is enthralled by birds similar to the way that I am fascinated by insects."

Nonstandard.
--> in the same way that..., just as...
