What is the Level of an upper intermediate

Hello,

I need to make up an exercise for my TEFL/TESOL Course.
This exercise includes in the introducing of 10 new lexical items on the subject crime
for an upper intermediate level.
Now my problem is, I don't know what new words to introduce, because I don't know
How much language knowledge an upper intermediate group has.
For example: do they know what the word homicide means?

It's not that easy to determine the size and boundaries of the vocabulary of an upper-intermediate learner. Their vocabulary will differ from student to student, so you won't please everybody anyway. However, there is a bunch of words concerning crime that aren't so frequent, so you can assume that they won't know most of them. You can for example look into a textbook for upper-intermediate students that is focused on broadening vocabulary. Such words might be:

And here are a few even more advanced:
