    Hi,everybody

Would you help me with this

How many categories do we have in English?
(Of course I know five of them {noun phrase, verb (p), adjective (p), adverb (p),
    prepositional (p)}) what else?

    Thanks

    mohammed:

When you use "categories" what do you mean?

If you mean "parts of speech" then there are traditionally eight in English:

    1. nouns
    2. pronouns
    3. verbs
    4. adjectives
    5. adverbs
    6. prepositions
    7. conjunctions
    8. interjections

Some might add "determiners" to this list though not me since I prefer parts of speech to be based on single words.

I'd shorten the list down to six:

    1. nouns and pronouns
    2. verbs
    3. modifiers (adjectives and adverbs)
    4. prepositions
    5. conjunctions
    6. interjections
