as an escape from the event
I'm having trouble understanding the following in red. Please paraphrase it more easily.
As a reader of this book, chances are that at some point you have attended a seminar or speaking event on the topic of innovation, creativity, or motivation. I myself have participated in many. Even though most are held in wonderfully inspirational locations, with rare exceptions the actual presentations take place within the confines of blandly typical conference facilities. The result is that participants only get to enjoy the environment as an escape from the event---during breaks or designated free periods or, even worse, hardly at all.
Re: as an escape from the event
The participants at seminars don't get many opportunities to enjoy the beautiful locations in which some are held.
