Which choices are better?

Could someone please help? I have read again what I posted in the morning and found that certain parts were not clear. I have since amended them.

The children were not allowed to meet or be touched by their parents.They were just given food three times daily, as in the case of livestock, for example, cattle, pigs or chickens.

However,after one year, all these babies died(,) one by one without any reasons / for no reasons.

1, Is the part in bold in the first paragraph in order?

2 (a) For the second paragraph, is a comma needed after 'died'?

2 (b) Which phrase is better? - without any reasons or for no reasons.
