Some people can't resist telling jokes and making funny comments, even if he thinks the joke may hurt others. Is there a comment that either he or the others usually make, after this person tells the joke? I don't know if it helps, but in Portuguese, the guy would say something like "I may lose a friend, but I won't miss the joke".

I can't think of any remark quite like yours, though we sometimes say, "Sorry - I couldn't resist (it)".
