Gerund or Participle...
He can run long distance, his energy prevented from draining by heat.
I know it is not the best of constructions, but what I wanted to know was whether "draining", as used in this sentence, is a Participle or a Gerund.

I'm afraid the sentence is meaningless, so there is little point in discussing the grammatical function of one of the words in it.
