Default either side of Terry's red card for violent conduct.

    Hi,

What does the bold part mean?

The Blues were in serious trouble after goals from Sergio Busquets and Andres Iniesta put Barca ahead either side of Terry's red card for violent conduct.

    Thanks a lot

Three sequential points in time - two are stated relative to the middle one.

So, it means before and after Terry's red card.

Sorry, I still don't understand. Can anyone help? What does the "either side" mean?

One guy scored a goal. Then a guy got a red card. Then another guy scored a goal.

If you consider the above sequence of events as a sandwich, then each goal scoring was like a piece of bread. They are on either side of the red card event.

MagimagicE should have stated that he/she is not a teacher, in accordance with the rules.

    Nevertheless, it's an excellent answer.
