    Default I'm all right Jack

    'I'm all right Jack'
    1. Is this BrE?
    2. Is it nearly the same as 'happy-go-lucky Jack'?
    3. Could this 'Jack' be any other name like 'I'm all right
    Itasan'?
    4. What is the American equivalent?
    Thank you.

It's BrE. It means that I'm alright, so I couldn't care less about other people. No, you can't change the name. I'm not sure of the origin, but there was a Peter Sellers film with this as the title.

    Thank you very much, tdol.
    >>I couldn't care less about other people.<<
This kind of negative sentence is very difficult for
a NNES, at least for me. Does it mean?
    1. I care about other people as well.
    2. I don't care about other people very much.
    3. I'm happy, so I don't understand the feelings
    of those who are unhappy.

It's selfish. I get a pay rise- other people don't. I'm alright, Jack.
