english worldwide??

hi. i know this may sound strange, but in many countries, people speaking their language often use the same words as in other countries such as: bus, taxi, etc. i was just thinking, are these words actually English, or just very common words that are universal?? im sure there are lots more, but im just wondering. OR are they used by other non-english speaking people because of their ease of use and because they are so commonly used everyday in daily speech??

Taxi comes from French, which took it from German, from Latin. Words travel around. When a language takes a word from another it is a 'loan word'. I see people of many languages using 'hello' to answer their mobile phone. Words have a life of their own and people pick up on them for different reasons. 'Ciao' has moved from Italian to various languages. This is often for convenience, but can be because we like the sound of them, etc.;-)
