    Default what is the term im looking for???

    i just cant think of the word. its on the tip of my tongue. its when you can read ANOTHER languages , such as writing on signs or places etc. in another country, but it is actually an english word spelled in their language.

    is there a specific term for this? thx

    I think it may "borrowing"
    or loan-translation= calque

    "Borrowing" might be it...

    I think "calque" is where you take a word in language X (usually a compound word, such as "eggplant" or "overdrive") and create a new word in language Y by direct word-for-word translation. Thus "gratte-ciel" in French is a calque of "skyscraper".
