I read in an interview, film director Ang Lee says he never asked the author of Brokeback Mountain, Annie Proulx, why she called it 'Brokeback'; he says, “I was scared to ask her.”
I think I often heard " I dare not ask..." and " I was afraid to ask...", but am not sure I've heard "I was scared to ask..." used in the same circumstances; are these three exactly the same?
Thanks.
I would say you are correct, they all mean the same.
Thanks hobbes.
I have another comment on the film's name.
It's absurd to look for grarmmar lessons in a film's name, but for grammatical correctness, they should have had a past participle modifying "back": "brokenback mountain", don't you think?!
You're right.![]()
