A device 2 is mounted near the device 1 on the IC board
The device 1 generates heat when it operates.
The device 2 has poor resistance to heat.
The IC board has a "long" metal bar.
The heat generated by the device 1 travels through the metal bar and is released at the end of the metal bar.

I want to explain structure of the metal bar.
The metal bar "extends far from" the IC board so that the heat is prevented from affecting the device 2.

Is this sentence strange for native english speakers?

Your sentence is understandable, but you could also say: The metal bar extends away from the IC board so that the heat is prevented from affecting device 2.

Another sentence I made is as follows:
The metal bar "extends to a distance" from the IC board so that the heat is prevented from affecting the device 2.
I wonder wherther "to a distance" is unclear.
