Default "bring their own ranks in line"

Hi teachers, what does the phrase "bring their own ranks in line" in the following quote mean?

"House Republican leaders scrambled to bring their own ranks in line Thursday as a plan to make it harder for illegal immigrants to cross the border and get jobs ran into resistance." - from AP news

Thank You.
