Default have my bill made out tomorrow

I watched an old movie yesterday, and I heard the lead said "I'll have my bill made out tomorrow" to a hotel clerk when he (the lead) decided to check out the next day.
I think he meant he'd pay the bill the next day, but wasn't he supposed to say " have my check made out"? He was to pay the bill, not make the bill, right?
The movie is "Death in Venice".
By the way, what do we call a hotel clerk?

The British pay bills not checks- Dirk Bogarde was British. Also having the bill made means getting the hotel receptionist to add up all the items and produce the final figure.

There is a french originated word for hotel receptionist (I think it starts with a C), but I can't remember what it is. If you would be so kind as to give me the word, I shall emphatically commit it to my memory.

In my previous message, by "have my check made out" I meant "write a check". They probably didn't have credit card then.
I know Americans pay utility bills (and hotel bills), but they pay dining checks, right? ( I do seek confirmation of the latter. Thanks.)
