Default to not or not to

It’s common practice among my friends to not use capital letters in e-mail.

Shouldn't we say "It’s common practice among my friends not to use capital letters in e-mail"?

    Thanks!

It's common practice to put 'not' before 'to'.

If your statement is true, then I would like you to ask all your friends (on our behalf) to start using correct capitalisation in emails and text messages immediately. If they don't, they are contributing to the destruction of the written language that we strive to preserve!
Remember - correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing make posts much easier to read.
